Today, terrorism stands as one of the most critical issues confronting nations and states worldwide. Although it primarily affects specific regions, its prevalence has become a security concern for nearly all contemporary societies. The United Nations has undertaken efforts to counter the rise and activities of terrorist groups, particularly in light of the emergence of ISIS and its transnational operations, which brought the terrorism crisis into sharper focus as a global security threat. This article employs an analytical and descriptive approach, utilizing library sources and online materials, to answer the question: “Which resolutions has the United Nations adopted against the ISIS terrorist group?” In contrast to previous studies that addressed the crises in Iraq and Syria and the UN’s role during these conflicts, this research uniquely focuses solely on the UN resolutions directed against ISIS. According to the findings, between 2014 and 2021, Resolutions 2169, 2170, 2178, 2199, 2347, 2249, and 2462 constituted the most significant UN Security Council resolutions against ISIS, addressing the following areas: Resolution 2169 recognized ISIS as a terrorist organization; Resolution 2170 aimed at dismantling ISIS; Resolution 2178 targeted the recruitment of foreign fighters by ISIS; Resolution 2199 prohibited the purchase and trade of oil, gas, and cultural artifacts with terrorists; Resolution 2347 focused on the protection of humanity’s shared heritage and cultural property; Resolution 2249 sought to destroy ISIS strongholds in Iraq and Syria; and Resolution 2462 addressed counter-terrorism financing and the fight against the funding of terrorism.
